Month: April 2004

  • I had a dream last night, a group of warriors from all different time-periods and cultures were wandering around a junkyard/museum full of weapons. They had an argument… some of them wanted to take the weapons, while others were afraid to touch anything. One of them got fed up, stole a helicopter from a display, and flew away. Very short dream. heh

Because it is only a few days off, this week’s Ancient Whispers Newsletter centers around the holiday of Beltaine. Read all about Beltaine in this week’s article and find a plethora of holiday cooking ideas in the collection of recipes I’ve gathered for this week’s Sites of Interest. Need some decorating ideas? Try this week’s craft on how to make flower chains, and enjoy several flower based jokes.

And an apology for last week’s messed up link. No one told me they couldn’t get to the Aura newsletter so I didn’t realize I’d messed up the link until I was posting this one. Sorry!

  • Did you ever wake up so slowly that the world seemed to bleed into existence? You weren’t asleep one minute and awake the next. You just slowly became aware of the world as if it only formed around you in increments as you woke. Did you ever wonder what existed before you woke up? I do. Waking up that slowly is like opening your eyes in a dream. And I should know about dreaming, being an “expert” Dreamer and all. So it leads me to wonder, when am I ever really awake?

According to one site I found everyone dreams. Dreams range from five to thirty minutes, three to five times every ninety to thirty minutes during eight hours of sleep. Dreams make up about twenty-five percent of a adult’s sleep, but fifty percent of a newborn child’s sleep. Seventy-five percent dream in color, and emotional extremes are the norm, rather than the “modulated” emotions that occur on the waking state. For the average person, six percent of their life is spent dreaming. I wonder how average I am.

Apparently, women dream more indoor settings, and their dreams contain more dialogue, social interaction, emotion and detail. Men dream more of action and the outdoors, contain more male figures, and less dialogue.

And animals are also observed in dreamstate. I think that the fact that animals can dream is one of the best indications that they also have a soul. All the ancients agreed that dreams were dependent upon the activities of the soul. The soul would go wandering they said. And if someone went to sleep and died, then something had happened to the soul. It leads me to wonder if plants dream. heh I’ve never asked them. I’m sure trees probably do, especially in the long winter months, but what about lesser plants.

    I wonder…

In other news… I took a test… like I have soo much free time. heh Well, it is my day off.

It’s interesting because it’s true! lol I always thought I was pretty equally balanced, but apparently, being unbalanced (not imbalanced! :D ) is a good thing. heh

    Your Brain Usage Profile:

    Auditory : 33%
    Visual : 66%
    Left : 33%
    Right : 66%

Candace, you possess an interesting balance of hemispheric and sensory characteristics, with a slight right-brain dominance and a slight preference for visual processing.

Since neither of these is completely centered, you lack the indecision and second-guessing associated with other patterns. You have a distinct preference for creativity and intuition with seemingly sufficient verbal skills to be able to translate in any meaningful way to yourself and others.

You tend to see things in “wholes” without surrendering the ability to attend to details. You can give them sufficient notice to be able to utitlize and incorporate them as part of an overall pattern.

In the same way, while you are active and process information simultaneously, you demonstrate a capacity for sequencing as well as reflection which allows for some “inner dialogue.”

All in all, you are likely to be quite content with yourself and your style although at times it will not necessarily be appreciated by others. You have sufficient confidence to not second-guess yourself, but rather to use your critical faculties in a way that enhances, rather than limits, your creativity.

You can learn in either mode although far more efficiently within the visual mode. It is likely that in listening to conversations or lecture materials you simultaneously translate into pictures which enhance and elaborate on the meaning.

It is most likely that you will gravitate towards those endeavors which are predominantly visual but include some logic or structuring. You may either work particularly hard at cultivating your auditory skills or risk “missing out” on being able to efficiently process what you learn. Your own intuitive skills will at times interfere with your capacity to listen to others, which is something else you may need to take into account.

  • I have been somewhat remiss lately about posting my dreams, but it really seems like I have so little time lately, it’s hard to get more than one or two posts in a week. I need a good poke to get me posting, I think.

Despite their oddness, I really enjoy dreaming. I dream nearly every night, but they don’t always make much sense- like just some minute moment somewhat like a snapshot in my brain or some sound or action, and then done. I don’t share those with you all. What would be the point? They don’t have any meat on their bones. They’re like an incomplete thought. I just share the ones that seem to tell a story, however oddly composed it may be.

The first dream I neglected to relate may have been influenced by Blogger111′s Saturday(4/17) post. At any rate, it involved a female cat in heat, wandering around outside the house and spraying everything in the neighborhood. For some reason however, there were no male cats around. There was one in the neighboring house though. Don’t ask me how they got together, but I think she got into the house somehow, rather than him getting out.

At any rate, she eventually got pregnant and was giving birth in the kitchen of a house my family and I lived in about five years ago. We (a group of people I didn’t know) lifted the shirt she was hiding under, and she was lying there with just one little kitten. It was all bedraggled from being born, but it wasn’t breathing. Someone said she had to lick it or it wouldn’t live, but I reached down and rubbed its little back and it mewed. Then the momma cat leaned forward and started licking her kitten until it started moving about.

    I wish I wasn’t allergic to cats. I love the little fluff-balls.

The second dream occured on Friday, and it was a bit confused. There was a house out in the woods which I seemed to have lived in once but which I knew to be structurally unsafe. I think it may have been my Nana’s house. She died when I was nine, but my sister and I used to go up and stay with her and our “uncle” Freddie just about every Summer. So I knew the house fairly well. In the dream it was really falling down. I wonder how the house really is, whether it’s still standing or has been demolished in the name of “progress.”

At any rate, the building was filled with all kinds of junk and people were driving in from all over to go through it. Really it was very much like what happened when my Nana died twenty-one years ago, even though I wasn’t involved at such an early age. I remember the house was full of junk and the people that came to look through it really had their work cut out for them.

In my dream, every room was filled with gray piles of anonymous junk. The state of the house was the scary part though. It creaked and boards splintered under my feet. There was a man leading me from room to room, showing me the piles of junk and pointing out architecture. I asked him why they would hold such an event in a place that was obviously ready fall down. He just gave me a blank look, and no one else seemed to notice the state of the place either. Even as people touched the walls, their hands went right through the paper, plaster, and aged boards like tissue. I kept seeing my feet going through the floor boards, even though I never really fell, and then my view would plummet through the floors down to layers and layers of basements full of more junk and dust and fallen beams and it just seemed to go on forever and ever.

    KisstheWitch asked:

What did you want to be when you were a child?

A better question would be what didn’t I want to be as a child? lol Seriously, I think I ran the gamut from baker and cook to vetrinarian. I also wanted to be an artist and writer, and even president. While I am an excellent baker and cook, I doubt I’ll ever be paid money for it, and unfortunately, my allergy to fur and feathers means I will never be a vetrinarian. I do hold out some high hopes on being a paid writer some day. I also think I might one day go into politics… if I ever have a sever head trauma! heh

Do you have a favourite (ever) book?

Awww, just one??? Well, I guess I’d have to go with the book I learned to read on… The Hobbit.

What single piece of advice would you give to a child if you had one?

I think if I had a child (wow! immaculate conception! lol) I would tell it to learn as much as it could about everything it could so that when the time came to make a choice (any choice), it would not have to rely solely on the advice or opinions of others. :: cough cough :: media and politicians :: cough cough ::

    Joyous asked:

Question the first: If you could have any super power at all (and I mean any) what would you pick?

While not cool or glamourous, I think I would like the power to understand any language (written or spoken). It’s not the flashiest ability I could choose, but the potential for the accumulation of knowledge is just mind boggling. Just thinking of all those people, wanting to know about things only I could tell them about ancient dead languages that have no known cipher… er, um… yeah. lol Knowledge is power. heh

Speaking of languages… I just started a group at tribes.net called Iconophilia for people like myself who collect symbols of all sorts. Yeah… I’m a freak.

Question the second: Say you found a genie in a bottle (any bottle…it doesn’t matter, but you were only allowed one wish instead of the conventional three. What would you wish for?

Um… more wishes?? lol just kidding… I’m not a cheat!

But of course I would have to be careful in my wording because the Djinn can be a tricksy lot. So… I think I would ask to always have the means to get what I need, though not everything I want… just so I don’t get lazy or greedy.

Question the third: When you eat your smarties, do you eat the red ones last?

Actually, no, I eat them second. I save the green for last and pitch the purple… I hate the purple. Yukky.

    Anam asked:

    1) do you put as much effort into everything you do as you do into the research you present here on xanga?

Everything I do? No, probably not. But anything I write, whether it is fiction or non-fiction, if research is required, I do it with a smile. Really I’ve loved researching things since I was in elementary school. I’ve been a library haunt since first grade. I can’t help but do research. It’s like a psychological compulsion.

    2) If you could disappear without consequence (as if you were spose to be at work etc) to any place once a month for a 3day holiday, money being no object, where would you go and why?

I’m not sure… would it only be one place every month or a different place every month? If it’s the same place, I guess I’d go to Washington DC every month to visit the museums and haunt the Library of Congress. I’d say Rome, to the secret vaults of the Vatican, but I don’t speak Italian and I can’t read any dead languages. heh If it’s various places I could go once a month, I guess I’d go to all the great museums and libraries of the world.

    3) which of the dreams you have had do you wish were actually true and why?

I don’t know that I would actually wish any of my dreams to be real. Technically they’re nightmares and as exciting as they are while I’m dreaming them, if they were real, I’d have an entirely different perspective, as in, dear gods! I could die! Eeek! lol

But that said, there was one dream that I had when I was in my early teens that I would like to come to pass if there should come a point where the human race destroys itself. It may seem a bit morbid, but I actually found it to be very comforting when I had it because at the time I was very worried they (the government) was going to start WWIII and kill us all.

So I had this dream that a group of highschool students had a group dream of the future which told them what was coming and what they should do. They found a scientist who they had dreamed of and who would invent a semi-sentient barrier which kept out all forms of radiation as well as pollution (and combustion technology). Actually it was kind of an overgrown amoeba which absorbed these things while keeping everyone inside safe and healthy, expanding the more it “ate.” So the people who had the dream gathered other people and pooled their resources to by an island. And even the animals of the world, those that could, started gathering at the island.

The people of the island set the barrier up which freaked out the governments of the world who tried to stop some members who’d had last minute work outside the barrier from joining their compatriots inside. But everyone got inside safely just as the bombs started falling. And the dream ended hundreds of thousands of years in the future when the barrier had expanded so far out ito the solar system that it touched the sun and everything ended.

Despite it’s theme, I find it comforting. I’m freaky that way.

  • Some things of interest today… now that I finally have time to post. I swear if I didn’t need the money, I’d ask for fewer hours at work, but then, who doesn’t say or think that?

Internet addict? Not me, but I must admit that my entire social life is online, and there’s not enough hours in the day to write my newsletter, update my comic twice a week, update my blog more than twice a week (make comments on other people’s blogs), answer all my emails (something that distresses me greatly), reply to pertinent threads on various forums, read all the webcomics I’ve collected together, and generally make my presence felt in the e-world. If only, Only, someone would pay me for my opinions, comics, posts, etc. lol

    If wishes were fishes…

Two days off a week is simply not enough!

Anyway, I found this article in my mailbox the other day… I don’t really care about the IQ being links to the GDP of countries, but it is interesting to note the average IQs of the countries involved. Of course, the article does not go into detail about the various IQs of All the countries involved, nor does it say how it got these results. The average of the Pacific Region is 105, while America is 100. Funny, I was always told that the average here was around 115 or so, but then since the last school IQ test I took (many, many years ago) I’ve read that depending upon the test used, the number has a different meaning. For instance, I’ve self administered tests and have an average of 125 or so, which according to the tests I used, is only gifted. Wile E Coyote, super-genius I am not… apparently. Oh well, I think I am still on a higher level than most politicians, no matter what their country may be. heh

I found a new website with rather interesting articles on mixing magic with technology and/or our current socio-economic practices among other things. I would also like to mention the Pagan Census at the Witchschool.com. Information gathered through the Census will be delivered to the Parliament of World Religions in Barcelona, Spain, in July.

I also discovered this week that Llewellyn Publishing has a community website. Surprised the heck out of me that they would offer any information for free when they delight so much in commercializing it and selling it for top dollar. Heh, you can tell I don’t care much for Llewellyn. Still the site looks like it might occassionally be a good resource despite the emphasis on buying their overpriced and vaguely Borg-like, all inclusive and indescriminate Wicca books thinly disguised as any other form of Paganism. But, don’t let my poor opinion of them flavor your buying practices. Not all Llewellyn books are regurgitated and remixed information dumbed down to cater to teens and those who learned everything they know of Witchcraft from watching Charmed….

I think I should stop now in mid-tirade. Suffice it to say, I don’t care for their books, but I will admit they have a few good ones, however few and far between they may be.

  • Magic for Everyone

Magic(k) is quickly becoming a very popular subject in the world as people seek new and conversely ancient ways of dealing with a rapidly changing world. In fact, the metaphysical/magic/divination/speculation section in the Borders where I work is larger than the Christianity section (unless you include the Inspirational section which it must be admitted is very much Christian-biased). Some people shy away from the term magic because it has largely unknown laws which run counter to the currently more popular traditions of science. Others reject it feeling it is based in superstition, outdated folklore, and (the horror) new-agey sentimental clap-trap.

Arthur C. Clarke once stated that “any sufficiently advanced science is indistinguishable from magic.” In fact, magic has the capacity to fit into any and all systems. It does have laws which explain its effects, and laws which guide its practicioners in its use. In many ways, magic is the sister of philosophy and the mother of science. Many of the Magical Laws are similar to the known laws of science and like science, new discoveries are made as people make explorations into the realms of the unknown.

But Magic is really non-denominational and any person of any faith is capable of a magical act. In the realm of magical endeavors, many separate its practice into two distinct groups… that of High Magic and Low Magic. These are really misnomers because the terms deal with knowledge and practice, not power. These two types of magic are on equal footing, depending upon the strength of the Magic-user and not their tools or other paraphernalia.

High Magic is also refered to as Ceremonial Magic. Practicioners are typically in the habit of calling upon outside forces (spirits) to enact their desires. Though other spirits in other pantheons might be called upon by these Magi, this branch of magic has been heavily influenced by the Middle Ages and Christianity. Many of the spirits it calls upon are Angels or Demons, with specialized sigils and summoning methods. Goetic sorcerers, necromancers, magicians, and alchemists fit into this group.

The other group, those who practice Low Magic, use many different methods, but largely call upon powers within or from humble nature spirits. Though both groups make use of the intrinsic vibrations of herbs, gemstones, colors, and other items, it is the Low Magicians who are most known for using these tools to utilize their own energies or borrow from nature. While High Magicians command, Low Magicians ask with largely the same results. Low Magicians are also called Witches, Kitchen Witches, Hedge Mages, Shamans and so on.

Because in this era, not all magic-users utilize methods found in High Magic and Low Magic to achieve their goals (and because referring to them as high and low creates an uneccessary bias in the minds of some), I have always prefered a classification of three types of magic instead -magic of thought, magic of word, and magic of deed. Magic of thought would run the gamut from unintentional “wish-magic” to deliberate psychism and affirmation. Magic of word would cover any word or sounds, while magic of deed would apply to any physical action from a gesture to drawing sigils. Obviously there would be much cross-over between the three… how can you speak without mental intent, draw a sign without knowing what it means, drum for energy without sound… but realigned in these terms, there is no High or Low Magic. There is only energy.

    Is your brain really necessary?

    {Paraphrasing commences with my comments in bold}

Apparently the brain is not necessary for “normal” intelligence. According to the above article, a University of Sheffield campus doctor was treating one of the students for some slight illness when he noticed that the student’s head was a little larger than normal. So of course the doctor referred the student to another doctor for further examination. I’d have liked to have been in on that discussion… Do you know I think your head’s a little big? Maybe you should see someone about that.

The student in question is noted to have a normal IQ and no learning disabilities or oddness, yet a CAT-scan showed that he had virtually no brain! In fact, the student had less than 1 millimetre of cerebral tissue covering the top of his spinal column.

The student has a condition known as hydrocephalus, which causes the cerebrospinal fluid to become dammed up inside the brain. It’s normally fatal in the first few months after birth, and even those children that survive are usually seriously handicapped.

But cases where death or severe handicaps did not occur are not at all rare. Apparently there’ve been several documented cases of people living perfectly normal lives who, upon death, were autopsied and found to have this condition. In fact the Professor who examined the student has identified several hundred people with the condition who are none-the-less normal in every way. “Some of them he describes as having ‘no detectable brain’, yet they have scored up to 120 on IQ tests.” Not too shabby for someone with no brain.

The question is, how do these people function without a brain? I mean, maybe the Egyptians were right and it really is gunk to be scrambled and pulled out through the sinuses as waste before mummification. Well, if it’s all waste material, that explains my headaches.

Some researchers theorize that there’s so much redundancy in a normal brain that what is left in a hydrocephalic brain adapts to compensate, but since the functions of the brain have been mapped and a high degree of specialisation has been found necessary for even the most general motor functions, this doesn’t seem to be the answer. The idea that we ‘only use 10 per cent of our brain’ and so a hydrocephalic brain might be the minimum of what is necessary for proper function is a misunderstanding drawn from early cerebral research in the 1930s. At the time, the functions of large areas of the cortex could not be determined and so were considered dormant. We now know these areas are linked to important functions like speech and abstract thought.

My favorite theory is that “the brain is [not] a warehouse for memories…” but “…is more like a radio receiver for tuning into the past.” According to Dr Rupert Sheldrake in his book, A New Science of Life Memory, “Memory is not a recording process in which a medium is altered to store records, but a journey that the mind makes into the past via the process of morphic resonance.”

I like that… the brain is like a radio picking up the cosmic thoughts of our souls. Makes me wonder about the brain and psychic ability. Like is the brain necessarily the “organ” responsible for psychic ability. For instance, I recall reading a story a couple years ago about a Medieval Christian “saint” who was mentally handicapped but could fly. This “miracle” was basically why he was sainted BTW, not for anything he actually did or said (or had done to him).

So maybe intelligence and psychic ability are abilities of the soul rather than phenomena controlled by some physical “organ” of the human body. Makes you think, eh?

We’re all just meat-puppets for the soul. heh

  • They say Indigos have been born throughout history, but there’s been a major boom in births starting in the seventies and gaining momentum through the eighties and nineties.

I thought I’d post (and repost from yesterday) some of the main indicators since Kissthewitch and HGDKS asked. Of course, there are a lot of other spiritual-types being talked about now… like crystals and dolphins, etc. Some say the older Indigos are transitioning into crystals, that Indigos are the warriors paving the way for the peaceful crystals by tearing up the system. I’ve no theory on that.

Some signs of Indigo Children are:

*They have a strong self esteem, connection to source, and an obvious sense of self. The know they belong here until they are told otherwise.

    * They have difficulty with discipline and authority, refusing to follow orders or directions without understanding why they should.

    * They are frustrated by ritual-oriented systems that require little creativity. They get bored rather easily with assigned tasks.

    * Often they see better ways of doing thing at home and at school, but don’t understand why others don’t or can’t.

    * They are nonconformists.

    * The do not respond to guilt trips unless they actually have a reason to feel guilty.

    * They lack patience and are easily distracted. This is because they are born multi-taskers. Most are diagnosed with ADD or ADHD.

    * Indigo children display strong intuition. Their spiritual intelligence and/or psychic skills are strong. They may either show strong empathy for others or no empathy. This is either due to lack of shielding, which allows full psychic contact with the world, or very strong shielding, which allows no psychic contact with the world.

    * They are gifted or talented and highly intelligent. Both sexes develop abstract thinking while very young. They are talented daydreamers and visionaries.

    * They often express anger physically and may have trouble with rage.

    * They are here to change the world, to help us live in greater harmony and peace with one another and to raise the vibration of the planet.

Some adult signs of indigo are:

    * They have an unconventional intelligence. Though they may not have had top grades in school, they are very creative and enjoy making things. They most likely felt great disgust and loathing for much of the required or repetitious schoolwork.

    * They always need to know why, especially when they are asked to do something. They may have been rebellious in school, refusing to do homework and rejecting the authority of teachers. On the other hand, they may seriously have wanted to rebel, but didn’t dare, usually due to parental pressure or enlightened self-restraint.

    * Many may have experienced early existential depression and feelings of helplessness. These emotions would have ranged from sadness to utter despair. Suicidal feelings while still in high school or younger are not uncommon in the Indigo Adult. The increase in suicide among children may point to new indigos unable to cope with the world.

    * Don’t whine at Indigos about opportunities or money. Frustration with or rejection of the traditional American dream -the nine to five career, marriage, 2.5 children, house with white picket fence, etc -is the norm. Adult indigos have difficulty in service-oriented jobs (don’t I know it!). This is due in part because they resist authority and the caste system of employment. It is also due to the low need for creative ability or knowledge needed in these positions. Living life is more important to them than work.

    * Indigos prefer cooperative efforts in ideal situations, and leadership positions or working alone in less than ideal situations.

    * They have deep empathy for others, yet a deep intolerance for what they see as willful ignorance. Indigos may be extremely emotionally sensitive, including crying at the drop of a hat (no shielding), or they may be the opposite and show no expression of emotion (full shielding). They may also have trouble with controlling their anger.

    * Indigo will have trouble with “the system,” which they consider broken or ineffective (ie. political, educational, medical, legal, etc). In fact, they are alienated from or angry with politics, feeling their voice doesn’t count and their actions won’t affect the outcome. It seems to Indigos that their rights are constantly being infringed upon. They also feel fear and/or fury at “Big Brother.”

    * While indigos feel a burning desire to do something to change and improve the world, they may be stymied as to what to do.

    * Indigos will have had psychic or spiritual interest and experiences fairly young (in or before teen years). They have strong intuition and will have had psychic experiences, such as premonitions, seeing angels or ghosts, out of body experiences, hearing voices, etc. They may have awareness of other dimensions and parallel realities.

    * Their random behavior pattern or mind style marks them in the medical world as possible sufferers of Attention Deficit Disorder). They may have trouble focusing on assigned tasks due to boredom and may jump around in conversations.

    * Indigos may be electrically sensitive. Some kill wristwatches and street lights may switch off or come on as they move under them. Electrical equipment malfunctions and lights blow out when they are stressed.

    * They may be very expressive and inventive sexually, or they may reject sexuality entirely. Others may explore alternate types of sexuality.

    * Meaning in life and understanding of the world is very important to them, and they may seek this through religion or spirituality, spiritual groups and books, self-help groups and books. Many of Adult Indigos are self-taught, skillful researchers and library-divers. Lots of reading for Indigos. But many Indigos may eschew or quit college and either go straight into the workforce or go to vocational school.

*The thirties are a decade of rediscovery and recovery of the extremely high-end psychic abilities, like instant access to the Akashic realms, real time remote viewing, instant assessment of people’s thoughts and intent, deliberate synchronicity (sheer “dumb” luck) simultaneous time-hopping (paralleling) and other intriguing “gifts.” The healing gifts uncover themselves in the third decade also. The fun really begins in the forties, and the “late-bloomer” aspects of the mature Indigo begin to emerge.

*Many Indigos (not all) will not marry or have children. Some older Indigos have often wished that they could have come in as a neuter/neutral gender so they could do their work free from distraction.
