  • I hope everyone is having (will have) a wonderful Mabon. In this edition of the Ancient Whispers newsletter, I have included some good recipe links in the sites of interest as well as an article on Mabon. I’ve also included the Legend of the Wild Hunt, a phenomena intimately connected to the harvest season.

    The Axioms of Magic series of articles will resume in the next edition of the newsletter on October 6th.

  • I think I had two dreams last night, but I’m not sure as they kind of blended together. In the first, I was watching a truck fly down wet roads, slucing side to side without a care for proper road safety. It was transporting drugged human beings to some undisclosed place for slaughter. There were so many in the back, they had to stand shoulder to shoulder in water that was ankle deep. And they swayed and slid into one another as the truck went screeching round curves and skidding on the wet road.

    Then I dreamed of myself and that there was a giant black beetle and worm in my throat. I kept coughing and there were tiny baby worm/beetles in my phlegm so I tried not to cough on anyone. First I spat up the beetle which was dead. No one knew about the worm though. They took the beetle and put it in a bag in an empty fridge.

    The beetle came up without trouble, but I choked and struggled to spit up the worm. It didn’t want to come out because then it would die. Eventually I managed to get it out. It wasn’t like an earthworm. It was about the same size as the beetle, that is as long as my arm, hand to elbow, and about as wide as my head at the top and tapering to a point at the end. It was a grayish flesh tone, like a corpse, and wrinkled, and of course, once it was up, it was dead. They put it in the fridge as well, and for some reason, it stuck to the wall and began to decompose very quickly. When we checked on it again, the body had fallen in to reveal several round gray balls inside which I knew to be eggs. These would hatch and cause a lot of trouble unless they were destroyed, but I didn’t stay asleep long enough to get that done.

  • Hurray, no jury duty for me. Because of pending jury duty, my work schedule was all discumboobulated. I didn’t get to do the Tuesday comic at all, and my apologies to those who normally read it. Now I don’t even have to go, and they screwed up my schedule all for nothing, though I won’t nock the overtime I’ll get as a result. Now that I don’t have to go, they’re having me come in to work tomorrow anyway.

    Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for doing my civic duty, but they really don’t take into account people’s work schedules. To go from a four to midnight (or later) job, to 9-5 jury duty is just ridiculous. I’m just saying… They should have a nocturnal court. You know? Our culture is growing beyond the normal daylight workforce and the functions of government should reflect the growing nocturnal 24-7 population. I’m just getting to sleep when many people are getting up.

    Anyway… I don’t have to go. Stupid as it is, for those who have never been called, they make you fill out a questionaire and send it back within the proscribed time, then they send you a letter with your juror number and a phone number which you must call after 8pm the day before you would report. When you call, a person goes through the process of explaining to all the feeble minds that you must disregard any zeros in front of your number, and proceeds to give an example, before Finally tell you which numbers must report on the following day. “Jurors one thru one sixty-four, including one sixty-four must report.” Woohoo, I was two fifty-one.

    Now, to more serious business than my freedom from jury duty…

    Mandatory draft for boys and girls (ages 18-26) starting June 15, 2005, is something that everyone should know about. This literally effects everyone since we all have or know children that will have to go if this bill passes.

    There is pending legislation in the house and senate (companion bills: S89 and HR 163) which will time the program’s initiation so the draft can begin as early as spring, 2005, just after the 2004 presidential election. The administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public’s attention is on the elections, so our action on this is needed immediately. Details and links follow.

    This plan, among other things, eliminates higher education as a shelter and includes women in the draft. Also, crossing into Canada has already been made very difficult.

    Actions:

    Please send this on to all the parents and teachers you know, and all the aunts and uncles, grandparents, godparents. . . And let your children know – - it’s their future, and they can be a powerful voice for change!

    This legislation is called HR 163 and can be found in detail at this website:

    http://thomas.loc.gov/

    Just enter in “HR 163″ and click search and will bring up the bill for you to read. It is less than two pages long.

    If this bill passes, it will include all men and ALL WOMEN from ages 18 – 26 in a draft for military action. In addition, college will no longer be an option for avoiding the draft and they will be signing an agreement with Canada which will no longer permit anyone attempting to dodge the draft to stay within it’s borders. This bill also includes the extention of military service for all those that are currently active. If you go to the select service web site and read their 2004 FYI Goals you will see that the reasoning for this is to increase the size of the military in case of terrorism. This is a critical piece of legislation, this will effect our undergradates, our children and our grandchildren. Please take the time to write your congressman and let them know how you feel about this legislation.

    http://www.house.gov http://www.senate.gov

    Please also write to your representatives and ask them why they aren’t telling their constituents about these bills and write to newspapers and other media outlets to ask them why they’re not covering this important story.

    The draft $28 million has been added to the 2004 selective service system budget to prepare for a military draft that could start as early as June 15, 2005. Selective service must report to Bush on March 31, 2005 that the system, which has lain dormant for decades, is ready for activation.

    Please see http://www.sss.gov/perfplan_fy2004.html to view the Selective Service System annual performance plan, fiscal year 2004.

    The pentagon has quietly begun a public campaign to fill all 10,350 draft board positions and 11,070 appeals board slots nationwide. Though this is an unpopular election year topic, military experts and influential members of congress are suggesting that if Rumsfeld’s prediction of a “long, hard slog” in Iraq and Afghanistan (and permanent state of war on terrorism) proves accurate, the U.S. may have no choice but to draft.

    http://www.hslda.org/Default.asp?bhcp=1 entitled the Universal National service Act of 2003, “to provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons (age 18-26) in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes.”

    These active bills currently sit in the committee on armed services. Dodging the draft will be more difficult than those from the Vietnam era. College and Canada will not be options. In December, 200 1, Canada and the U.S. signed a “smart border declaration,” which could be used to keep would-be draft dodgers in. Signed by Canada’s minister of foreign affairs, John Manley, and U.S. Homeland Security director, Tom Ridge, the declaration involves a 30 point plan which implements, among other things, a “pre-clearance agreement” of people entering and departing each country. Reforms aimed at making the draft more equitable along gender and class lines also eliminates higher education as a shelter. Underclassmen would only be able to postpone service until the end of their current semester. Seniors would have until the end of the academic year.

    What to do: Tell your friends, Contact your legislators and ask them to oppose these bills.
    Just type “congress” into the aol search engine and input your zip code. A list of your reps will pop up with a way to email them directly. We can’t just sit and pretend that by ignoring it, it will go away. We must voice our concerns and create the world we want to live in for our children and grandchildren.

  • Magickal people beware….

                        You may be Schizoid (according to the Bush regime).

    The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition(American Psychiatric Association, 1994, pg. 645) describes Schizotypal Personality Disorder as a pervasive pattern of social and interpersonal deficits marked by acute discomfort with, and reduced capacity for, close relationships as well as by cognitive or perceptual distortions and eccentricities of behavior, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:

    •ideas of reference (excluding delusions of reference);

    odd beliefs or “magical thinking” that influences behavior and is inconsistent with subcultural norms (e.g., superstitiousness, belief in clairvoyance, telepathy, or “sixth sense”; in children and adolescents, bizarre fantasies or preoccupations);

    unusual perceptual experiences, including bodily illusions;

    odd thinking and speech (e.g., vague, circumstantial, metaphorical, overelaborate, or stereotyped);

    •suspiciousness or paranoid ideation;

    •inappropriate or constricted affect;

    behavior or appearance that is odd, eccentric, or peculiar;

    •lack of close friends or confidants other than first-degree relatives;

    •excessive social anxiety that does not diminish with familiarity and tends to be associated with paranoid fears rather than negative judgments about self.

    Instead of being burned at the stake for magical thinking, many beautiful people are being sent into Mental Health institutes and forced to take harmful medications that are turning “magical thinkers ”into depressed, rabid, confused, lonely, psychotic and scared people.

    Its obvious why Jung is overlooked by the APA. The APA is mainly concerned with making MORE MONEY off the degradation of society by feeding them drugs that not only attack the human neurotransmitters but directly assault and invade the DNA.

    BUSH SEEKS TO TEST EVERYONE FOR MENTAL ILLNESS!
    On July 14th, the House Appropriations Committee approved $20 million in new federal dollars to begin implementation of the plans set forth by the New Freedom Commission on Mental Health (NFC) to get every man, woman and child in America “screened” for “mental illness.”

    http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/328/7454/1458

    according to a March 2004 progress report entitled New Freedom Initiative

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/newfreedom/toc-2004.html

    While some praise the plan’s goals, others say it protects the profits of drug companies at the expense of the public.

    BUSH is now making it almost a law for people to be tested for signs of mental illness! Ridiculous! Aren’t there enough children on RIDDILIN?

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHAT TO DO?
    WHO TO CALL AND WHAT TO DO:
    1) Call the White House: 202-456-1111
    2) Call Speaker of the House, Rep. Hastert: 202-225-2976
    3) Call the Senate Leader, Senator Frist: 202-224-3344
    4) Call the House Education and Workforce Committee Chairman John Boehner at 202-225-6205
    5) Call the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee Chairman Judd Gregg at 202-224-3324
    Tell them you oppose any federal, state, or local plans for universal mental health screening. Tell them to STOP funding this New Freedom Commission on Mental Health plan in the Labor/Health and Human Services appropriations bill.
    These calls are fast and brief. The aide who answers will take your message and forward it on. It’s important that there are large numbers of calls, so please do this and get other to do so as well.
    Additional actions to take:
    1) Call your own Members of Congress (go to www.congress.org)
    2) Alert your state legislators and oppose any school board initiatives to add psychiatric screening programs.
    3) Support the Child Medication Act (S. 1390) currently stalled in the Senate by Senator Edward Kennedy – This legislation prohibits schools from coercing parents to place their children on psychiatric medications that are on the controlled substances list. Senator Kennedy, with large support from pharmaceutical companies, has not let this very modest proposal even receive a hearing, saying that it needs more study. Senator Kennedy (202-224-4543) as well as Senator Gregg (202-224-3324) the Committee chairman, and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (202-224-3344) need to hear from the public.
    4) Check to see if your state has a provision in state special education law that prohibits a school district from overriding parental refusal to submit their child to a special education or mental health evaluation. If yes, alert other parents, and if not, work for one.
    Thank you for yout help on this urgent matter.
    ~.*’*.~.*’*.~.*’*.~.*’*.~.*’*.~.*’*.~.*’*.~
    Wow, just thought you all would be interested in the latest attempt at societal control. In as much as I have always believed people who were psychically/magickally gifted were ending up institutionalized, I really hoped with the increase in Pagan/magickally oriented groups that people were learning to cope with their abilities on their own through books or through the assistance of people with similar ability. The idea that Bush and his sycophants along with toadying backers from pharmaceutical companies want to make us all happy little robots is scary. Without people who think “outside the box,” there will never be anyone to question the actions or tactics of our so-called leaders. Ironic that society encourage children to be original, unique, and forward thinking and then punishes any signs of non-conformity.
    Of course as more of *us* are born, it might become harder to control society. On the other hand, if activities like this aren’t curtailed now, who knows what it might lead to… genetic screening? Forced abortion or institutionalization from birth? A second classed citizenry of supposed mentally ill people who will work in jobs that no one wishes to fill -a slave class kept in check by drugs? Brave New World anyone?
    Or maybe I’m just paranoid. I’d like to think so, I really would….
  • The dream I had last night was rather jumbled so forgive me if it doesn’t make sense in parts. It seems there were these troll who wanted to bring eternal night to the world. I’m not sure why they would want this since they seemed perfectly capable of coming out in the daylight and becoming invisible at will. Apparently they were following a prophecy as recorded in a ballad.
    I was back in highschool, and everyone thought I was crazy because I knew when these trolls (which no one else believed in) were about, and anytime I felt them near, I’d whip out a fork and jab it around so they couldn’t grab me and carry me off.
    I went to the school’s library, but couldn’t find this prophetic ballad. The librarian suggested this forgotten old library across some railroad tracks. Unfortunately, everyone at school laughed at me, and someone stole my fork. So when the trolls came back, I had to run away. They chased me to the railroad tracks where I waited for the train to come before crossing so the trolls were stuck on the other side.
    I went into the library where this little old man kept shelves of ancient books. There were three adventurers also looking for the ballad, a tall, muscular man, a small, pudgy man with graying hair, and a pale man who was the personification of Death, but we couldn’t find anything. This was because the librarian was in league with the trolls. Finally we found an old paperback book with a curling cover and Ballads in bold along the spine. The librarian said there would probably be nothing in it and tried to take it, but by this time we had come to suspect him and knew the book had something in it.
    I went home to my crumbling house in the woods for some reason and decided to remove the wallpaper. As I pealed great swatches of paper from the walls, a huge map of the United states came away too. I was just about to start painting (though I don’t know what color) when one of the adventurers came in to say they had found the ballad.
    Then the trolls came in and snatched me away. They put me to sleep in a box like Snow White. This was apparently part of the prophecy and they’d been trying to get me for some time but couldn’t until the old librarian told them where I lived. The adventurers had to rescue me before morning, or there wouldn’t be a morning. At this point, the dream skipped to them finding me in the woods (guess I didn’t get to see whatever adventures they got up to in their quest), and Death woke me up.
    This edition of the Ancient Whispers newsletter covers the second magickal law, The Law of Attention. Simply put, the Law of Attention deals with how you observe your surroundings. It is the Law which has the most control over omens and portents. As before, the article discusses various aspects of the Law, while the “craft” gives some ideas on putting it into use. The Sites of Interest are books which I myself own on the subject of symbols which you may find useful in applying the Law of Attention.
    If anyone interprets the Law of Attention differently or has anything to add, I’m sure we’d all love to hear from you!
