  • wcfq 11a: Talent or Persistence

If you had to choose one, would you rather have talent, or the fortitude to be persistent in whatever you do.
    Prometheus

From personal experience, I’d rather have persistence than talent. Anything worth having is worth working for. It’s often been the case where the most talented people end up being the laziest because they don’t have to work in whatever area they excel to be good. They’re talented and so they don’t want to spend the time to be better; they don’t think they need it. Whereas someone with little or no innate talent, but a strong appreciation of the field, needs to have the persistence to develop a skill in that area. Skills are more important than talent because people with skill have made the effort to improve themselves and broaden their skill set in that area. Whereas talented people who do not have the patience to develop what they are born with are something like a one trick wonder, a savant… good but not creative. They lack the ability to synthesize new ideas in whatever field their talent lies.

I took this test two years ago and saw it again on
TheCheshireGrins site. It’s interesting to see areas where I’ve changed…

Take Free Advanced Global Personality Test
    personality test by similarminds.com

Stability results were medium which suggests you are moderately relaxed, calm, secure, and optimistic.
    Orderliness
results were medium which suggests you are moderately organized, hard
working, and reliable while still remaining flexible, efficient, and
    fun.
Extraversion results were moderately low which suggests you are reclusive, quiet, unassertive, and secretive.

    trait snapshot:

    changeable,
in the middle, suspicious, somewhat traditional, dislikes chaos, down
to earth, group oriented, practical… you scored in the middle on the
overall factors of this test. (Funny, it doesn’t look that way to me.)

Apparently, two years ago I was….
    8% more extroverted
    10% more stable (yikes! lol)
    12% more accommodating
    20% more interdependent
    13% more intellectual
a whopping 46% more materialistic (not that I was all that materialistic to begin with),
27% more adventurous (now this one is disturbing)
27% more romantic (a little concerning as well),
    7% more anti-authority
    6% more dependent
13% more sexual (as if I could get less sexual)
33% more histrionic (I never thought I was the hysterical type, and now even less so)

the same mystically, artistically, hedonism, narcissism, conflict seeking, wealth, aversion to change, individuality, paranoia  (I’m pretty paranoid apparently)

    8% less orderly
    7% less religious
    7% less in work ethic
    6% less avoidant
    13% less dominating (puzzling)
    7% less cautious
7% less of a Peter Pan complex (ha!)
33% less physically active (… good for me?)
27% less vain (Yipe! I didn’t think I was vain)

In some of the old categories I was 50% self-absorbed, 56% concerned with physical security, 56% hypersensitive, and only 36% female cliche. lol

The Italian Il Palio in Siena is a festival of medieval games.

In ancient times, the citizens of Rome celebrated the Feast of Expectant Mothers. At temples throughout the city, all pregnant women gathered to receive blessings and honor Bona Dea, Carmenta, Lucina, and other goddesses associated with birth and fertility.

  • I really enjoyed your answer to this question.  I would rather see someone work hard and earn what they have then be born with the ability to just get it and fail to use it!

  • Wow, that test was harsh.  I scored high on artistic, intellectual, work ethic, and romantic responses (no surprises there); but it called me secretive, paranoid, semi-intellectual (ouch), depressed, and weird!  On the plus side, I have a very low Peter Pan complex.  lol

  • I’m definitely going to have to remember to take that test again in a year so I can compare my results. What a good idea!

  • i hope that i would choose to be persistent rather than talented, only.

talent has limitations and applies to a handful of things, but persistence is ALWAYS necessary.

  • In my nature…I will always try to have both the talent and the tenacity…after all that will be the ultimate win win situation
