  • wcfq 20a/d: In a perfect world, I’d have 5 billion dollars

If you could create the perfect world,
    what would it be like?

    Skystears

Haha! But seriously, we already live in a perfect world, perfect in every way, but we sit here and insist on screwing it up with selfishness and acts of jealousy.  I honestly couldn’t think of a more perfect world than the one we live on. We have clean water (when we’re not dumping our waste into it). We have clean air (when we’re not spoiling it with car exhaust and factory spew). We have clean soil (when we’re not burying toxic and irradiated waste in leaky concrete bunkers). Why…. We live in the most perfect world imaginable; we’re just too stupid to appreciate it.

    What would you rather have,
world peace or 5 billion dollars?

In all honesty, and I’m not being selfish here… I’d rather have the 5 billion dollars. Has anyone seen the episode of the X-Files where Mulder meets a djinna and asks for world peace? Yeah, and everyone DISAPPEARED! So, world peace…. could never happen unless every single human being but one disappeared. Why just leave just one? Because if you put two human beings together, eventually they fight about something and POOF! no more world peace. I’m only halfway joking here. There’s seriously no way there can ever be world peace unless humanity grows up a little. Stop getting worked up over every little thing. Yeesh! It’s just life. It’s not like it’s permanent.

The other day I had a woman come into the store. Her eyes were wide and staring. In one big rush, she said, “DoyouhavethebookaboutSarahPalin?” I honestly couldn’t tell if she was one of the Rs or one of the Ds, but both of them come in demanding to see the books that support their views front and center, never mind about anything that presents a different opinion. Politics has become cultlike. It’s more than disturbing. It’s scary. Depending upon how this election goes, it might not be safe for people like me to continue to reside in the country of my birth. I know I’ve said it before when Bush was elected and “re-elected,” but as time passes, it becomes more evident that America is not a safe place to live. Not because of outsiders coming here to kill in the name of their religion, but because of the closemindedness of the people who already live here. People scare me!

But back to the SarahPalin cultist, I told her I didn’t know (because I refuse to pay attention to the book titles in the politics section) and that I would look it up. “ItsaboutSarahPalin. It’scalledSarah!” she blurted as if her forcefulness would make me find it faster. After a moment of searching, I told her that it was not yet in but we should have it soon. Did she want to reserve one? No, she was content with the fact that we would be carrying it and walked forcefully out. Is the book pro or con Palin? I have no idea. But her cultists are scary wide eyed women who make me cringe.

Ugh… I don’t care if Sarah Palin is a woman. That doesn’t mean she gives a fig for me and my beliefs. She’s a scary Christian, and I don’t mean that as a slur against Christians in general (My grandma’s Christian, so it’s not like I hate all Christians or something). Palin’s just one of the scary ones. They come in all varieties.   From the description though, I’d say she’s about as close to a Christian version of the Al Qaeda as you can possibly get. If she and the Bush clone are elected, I foresee dark times for Pagans and other free thinkers. I mean, look at what’s been going on in St Paul.  How is it democratic to attack a peaceful protest?

So, give me 5 billion dollars so I can buy an island… and you’re all welcome to come with me. It’ll be the biggest exodus since… the Exodus. heh All free thinking, unbiased, unselfish, and curious people welcome. I don’t care who you are, what you believe, or who you sleep with so long as you’re willing to let everyone else be who they are, believe what they want, and have a loving relationship with whoever loves them back.

  • I couldn’t agree with you more, on both the perfect world and Palin.  Ha.  In all honesty, I think she’s closer to Bush’s personality type than McCain is:  do what you want, when you want, and don’t mind trampling on everything and everyone in your way while you’re doing it.  Oh, and while you’re at it make sure no one else has a similar opportunity.

I have actually begun to think about an “evacuation plan” if McCain wins.  My mom informed me I would have to get a job in Canada before I moved there; or I was thinking that maybe I could get a job in Germany and move there.

  • looks like i can’t afford your island… can’t we just kick the scarey freaks out instead?

  • @heidenkind - Yeah, like America, other countries don’t want you either unless you are gainfully employed. I like Canada, I don’t think I’d mind living there…. but it’s just a bit too close to America for my comfort. I think Australia would be better maybe, but again, if you don’t have a “trade,” they don’t want you.

@NightlyDreams - Sure you can. If everyone who wants to leave pool their resources, five billion’s not so much.

  • @harmony0stars - Ha ha.  America has to put up with me whether I’m gainfully employed or not.  lol

I’ve never been into Australia; for some reason I’ve never wanted to go there.  Europe really bites, but at least I have family in Germany that I could visit.

  • @heidenkind - I’d like to visit Australia at least. I think it would probably get too hot there in the summer for my liking. Maybe I should move to Iceland. I’ve read that their government, crime, and environmental decisions are all head and shoulders above America. Or was it Greenland…. I forget now. But they actually have hydrogen powered cars there, though not many yet. They really go to great lengths to ensure their environment stays healthy.

  • @harmony0stars - I’ve also heard that about Greenland… or Iceland.  Whichever.  I also heard that they have a super-secret US base there where they perform biological experiments on people.

  • I’ll come with you to your island. I’m scared of the scary people too and I’m terrified of what this new regime might do to my non-conformist self an my unvaccinated children – among other thing. Me and my fam are seriously looking into really living off the grid.. not just as a novelty or to say I’m the crunchiest of the crunchy, but for real honest to goodness survival.

  • @hatcherbee - You know, as alluring as going away from our messed up society is, I’m not sure that it would be wise for all the open-minded people to hie off to an island somewhere and abandon our idiot species entirely. They kind of need us to keep them in check. If all the people with common sense disappeared, who knows what shenanigans they’d get up to. I really would like to disappeared to an island somewhere and wash my hands of modern society, but I have to ask myself if that would be responsible. We’re all responsible for our species as a whole and what mischief it gets up to. An on island, we might not get wind of their naughtiness until it was too late.

  • I’m sooo there, my friend! Count me in!

If only escape was that easy…

Love your writing, always makes me think. OUCH! I keep forgetting, in this wonderful new world of ours, we don’t have to do that any more. I’m out of practice!

Let me know what you think of my new fiction piece in a My Space comment when you get time, will ‘ya? Who knows, you might even like it!
