So I had the weirdest dream last night. I only remember it in snippets really, and I can’t be sure if it wasn’t two separate dreams. Oh I’ve had so many weird dreams in the past, but this wasn’t like those other dreams. It was just about humdrum normal compared to those other dreams. It was what was happening in the dream(s) that was weird, and I don’t know if it was prophetic or not. I mean, who doesn’t want to find money, eh?
So at first, I was in the music area of Borders (where I work). I’d walk a few feet and there’d be a bill on the floor, a one or a five. I’d pick it up and find another bill in the next few steps. Then I found a baggie of money. The last bill I found was a fifty! I really don’t know how much money I eventually found… close to a hundred at least. Dream money being largely symbolic, who knows how much that’s equivalent to in real money! lol
Then there was a huge snake on the floor and all the people around were screaming and saying kill it! kill it! I barged in saying “WTF people! Calm down! It’s just a little snake!” Actually, s/he wasn’t all that little. It was at least as thick as my shin and a good six feet if not longer. But I have a reputation for taking spiders, crickets, and birds out of the store by hand, and while a “little” snake is hardly a spider, cricket, or bird, I wasn’t going to let these ignorant bullies kill the poor thing. So I stepped right up and the poor thing crawled over and wrapped itself around my leg. I picked the snake up and carried it outside, but there was snow everywhere. I felt bad about leaving it out there, but I figured it would just hibernate.
So… maybe I’m coming into money? To dream of finding money denotes small worries but much happiness. To look upon a quantity of money means prosperity and happiness are in your reach. Handling snakes means you will use strategy to overthrow your opposition.
I’m hoping to be able to start my online store sometime next year after the holidays are over. I’ve really had it up to here with my job. (You can’t see me, but my hand is way over my head. lol) I’ve quit jobs with less stress than I’m currently dealing with. Have I mentioned my hair is going white? Yep, stress. I need some henna…. And my scalps been hurting for a couple weeks now. No matter how I massage it or shampoo, it just doesn’t stop hurting. It feels like I bumped it, but there are no lumps or cuts. It’s just tender and gives me a headache.
So by February or March, hopefully I will have my own store. I may stay at Borders for some time after that, until my ebusiness takes off, but I’m looking at maybe quitting Borders altogether by the end of next year at the latest. I’m looking into wholesalers who drop ship now so that I won’t have to keep any stock on hand. I may look into also keeping some used titles in addition to the dropships from the wholesalers. It would still mean a lot less in the way of storage.
Technically, I shouldn’t stay at Borders if I’m also working at “another bookstore.” It’s in the handbook. But if my store isn’t successful right away, I don’t see it as cross purposes if I stay at Borders until it’s lucractive enough for me to leave and still be able to pay bills. Besides, my bookstore will be a specialty market, so I’m not sure if it counts. One of my other coworkers works part time at a used bookstore and the higher ups don’t have a problem with that, so…. I’m thinking I’m in the clear at least for the time being.

Cha-ching!!! Maybe the dream was telling you that your ebookstore will be a success and that you’ll blow away the competition. That would be
.
Hmm, you know what’s really odd? I also had a strange dream last night. First, I was a contestant on Project Runway, which is about the most stressfull thing I can imagine because I don’t know how to sew. Tim Gunn was dressed up like Gandolf and leading us around central park. We were going to one of those fashion parties. While I was at the party, I got bored.
Okay, here’s where the strange part comes in. From the party, I decided to go into Borders. I knew that you were in there somewhere, but I couldn’t find you because it was the most confusingly laid out Boarders on the planet, and I kept getting distracted by books. Then the building started shaking and people started screaming. I found myself on the roof and it was like a national park up there! All green with pretty rock formations… anyway, there were planes flying overhead, tossing bombs down on us. I went back inside where it was still chaotic, and one of the books fell down and opened at my feet. It was filled with passages you’d written previously, predicting what was happening and saying the US airforce was bombing us. I stared at the book and thought, “How in the world does she know this???”
Anyway, that was pretty strange. I was debating about whether or not to tell you about it, but since you also had a dream about a disaster in Boarders, I thought I should. The message seems to be: get out of Boarders while you still can!
@Broom_Service - That would be very cool. I can only hope. Looking through the software necessary for opening an online store last night, I saw I’d need $700 for the “shopping cart” software alone. They sure don’t make opening your own business easy!!
@heidenkind - Hmmm, well I do have a rather jaundiced eye in regards to how far we can trust the government… dropping bombs on us really isn’t that far fetched. Just a very unsubtle form of oppression. If only I could open my own store… I’d want a garden in front (not on the roof because I want solar panels up there). I can only hope it would be as verdant as a national forest.
Curiously enough, the snake is only of my spirit animals. That it would come to me for protection does not bode well, and that I had to put it out in the cold is worrying too. It seems to me that the dream was saying I may have to delay my plans due to some issue that will arise at work. Most likely it will be an issue of getting enough money to do it. If I stay at work, I may save up the money I need, but at the same time, I may have to defend my plans from people who think I will fail (people who want to “kill” my aspirations).
One thing is very clear to me though, I have to stop waiting for things to happen and start making them happen. So long as I depend on others for my livelihood, I’m at their mercy if they decide to take away certain benefits (rights). So far we’ve lost matched contributions to our 401K, holiday pay, our self esteem… at some point I expect we’ll lose sick days and vacation days. They said the changes were only temporary to keep the company afloat, but I have my doubts. I suspect that now that they know we won’t/can’t quit, they’ll take as much from us as they can.
Ah people say I’m a pessimist, but I prefer the term, realist. heh
@harmony0stars - $700 for shopping cart software??? That’s pretty insane. Have you thought about just hiring a webdesign company?
I hope everything goes well for you. If the snake is your spirit animal and the people at work were screaming at it, trying to get it out, etc., then maybe that means that your mojo is being threatened by your work situation. I agree that having to put the snake outside isn’t a very positive sign.
Good luck!
@harmony0stars - I worry about some shopping carts software. Will you need to continually pay for support or upgrades? That’s something to check into when looking at the software. We have a client that has mail order management software that runs the company several thousand a year to get continual support and upgrades. Major Ouch!!! I would just be extra careful when researching any software for your company and do extensive research. That’s about the best advice that I can give because it is something that I won’t have to worry about being married to a programmer. He’s panning on custom programming all of our stuff.
@heidenkind - Wow… you’ve been having a lot of informative dreams lately. You sound like me.
The question is… Are you enjoying the strange dreams? Embrace them and you’ll find that they’re a wild ride. Woohoo!!!
However… a web designer deals mainly with designing the look of the site and normally doesn’t do much in the area of programming any software or behind the scene mechanics of code for said site to function properly. And sometimes the price of custom software can run up into the thousands depending on the size of the project.
@Broom_Service - Aha. Well, you can tell I’ve never had anything to do with e-business
(thank god; it sounds way too complicated).
This dream actually put me in a pretty bad mood; I don’t know why. I think the Prednisone I’m taking is affecting my brain or something, because this last week has just been insane. I haven’t been able to get hardly any sleep, and when I do, I have weird, vivid dreams.
@heidenkind - Realize while you’re dreaming that it’s a dream and play with the dynamics. It might take a little practice but once you’ve got it down it will be fun and it won’t wear you down or freak you out. To me, it sounds like you’re opening up.
@Broom_Service - I’ll try to do that.
Well it is always so good to know that the place you leave is still the same if not worse. That brings back so many memories…not sure if that’s supposed to be a good thing or not. You know you need to get out of there, Candace. We both have been saying that for quite a bit of time now. So nothing has changed at all? Nothing is being eased up on your end of the store?
I’m going to message you or something on myspace so we can have a little chat.
Snakes – gross!
Take care of yourself, Candace. You have me worried.
