Haiku News
Remember that horror haiku contest I mentioned on horror-web.com a couple days ago in a “pulse?”Well, I won! The prize was $17, a dollar per syllable. He’s also thrown in a shirt. heh Not bad considering I found out about it at the last minute and only took about a half hour to come up with the three and send them in.
Here are the three poems I entered:
The door was open;
it had been shut. From behind
a sigh. The air, cold.**
Twisting from the branch,
the wind’s marionette; my
love, you dance once more.**
Rats heard between walls
scurry to and fro. Judge me
not! You’ve heard them too.I won’t say which one won, but I’ll let you guys guess. And see if you can get the literary reference in the third horrorku.
February 3rd
St. Blasius or Blaise is one of four holy helpers invoked to help sick cattle. This saint is also responsible for helping people with sore throats. This is a masculine form of Brigit.
This is the last day of the Lesser Eleusinian Mysteries.

Wow! Congratulations. I was going to enter because I love haiku, but in all honesty I totally spaced it. lol
Okay, all three were pretty good, but I’m going to say the first poem won because it seems like the scariest. And the literary reference in the last one is… Poe? I’m just guessing.
The second one is my fave.
Congrats!
And I cheated and Googled the third. Spooky.
I vote for the second one… for the image it brings to mind… it’s pretty scary. Congratulations on winning! That’s awesome! Now if you could do that on a regular basis you could tell your employer to watch your cheeks wiggle as you walk away.
@NightlyDreams - @Bijouli - Thanks
@heidenkind - Thanks. Nope it’s not Poe. It’s from Lovecraft’s Rats in the Walls.
@ImKatWoman - @Broom_Service - Thanks, yup it was the second poem that won. Imkatwoman, yeah, it’s one of my favorite Lovecraft stories. Broom_Service, I only wish I could win contests on a regular basis. Imagine. lol $17 for a half hour’s work would be an awesome wage. heh (PS… I hope my cheeks don’t wiggle when I walk! ROFL)
@harmony0stars - A very good wage indeed.
(With the way our pelvic bones are structured we’re suppose to have a little wiggle in our cabooses naturally.
