  Liberalia honors the Roman vegetation god Liber. Held to mark the transition from boyhood to manhood, this is usually set at the age of seventeen.

  This is the last day of the rites of Cybele and Attis, the Lavatio. A procession travels to the brook Almo with an image of the goddess sitting in a wagon drawn by oxen. The statue’s face is of jagged black stone, a meteorite, set in a body of silver. The high priest washes the wagon, the image, and the other sacred objects in the waters of the stream.
