  • Some Odds n Ends

Working on some drawings for an icon to use in a kind of Lovecraftian "Dear Abby" called "Ask The Piscean" for Cthulhupalooza, a new (actually old but revived) ezine that I'm helping out. Not sure which of these we'll be going with, but figured I'd post them here for your (weird) enjoyment. They all started out as pen and charcoal, but then I played with them a bit with my computer. Cthulhupalooza is also having a logo contest. The prize? Your choice: A collection of cool Lovecraftian comics, including some
Herbert West Re-animator comics or a set of Cradle of Filth CDs. Cthulhupalooza will be accepting short works of fiction, poetry, non-fiction, book reviews, and art. They are especially interested in music reviews which focus on the influence of HP Lovecraft. You may see some of my poems and art there in the future, but unfortunately, my fiction is usually much too long for submission.

And here are those aura photos I promised the other day. Aside from the weird disembodied head effect, the colors really changed. The first one was taken about 16 years ago, and then the second was taken last year. I didn't get it done again this last expo because I only had it done about six months ago. I was told years before I had the first picture donethat my aura was green, and it seems that the green is pretty constant.

Basically, you sit in this chair and put your hands on these metal pads. They put a black cover over you, which I think is basically so you can't come back and say, well the camera just picked up these colors from my clothes. A very low level current (so low you hardly feel more than a faint pressure) is run through the pads. Your hands on the pads complete the circuit. I'm not exactly sure how the camera picks up the colors, but it is similar to Kirlian photography and according to the brochure, it "incorporates biofeedback and computer science to measure your electromagnetic field." It goes on to say that "energy vibrating at specific rates is light," and "light vibrating at specific frequencies is color."

And finally, I found this site which maps your tastes in music to make it easier to find new bands. It's called TuneGlue. It seems fairly accurate so far. I did a little digging, and I found another similar site called liveplasma. It can search music and movies and also search by actor or director. Very cool. I know there's one for books similar to this, but darned if I can find it.

A sacred festival called the Plynteria was celebrated annually in ancient Greece in honor of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and battle, and the patroness of the city of Athens (which was named after her). It included the ritual cleansing of her statue, followed by prayers in the Parthenon and feasting.

  • I have always wanted to have that done.  It seems like it would be really cool.  I'll have to tell you a story about auras sometime.

  • I had my aura photographed Kiliran style a few years back.  Very interesting.  I thought about purchasing a unit for a while as the idea of our energy being visible to learn from intriged me.

  • Love the sketches.  There are two kinds of Cthulhu; one is a tongue in cheek mock occultism, the other pretends to be the real thing to steal from unwary seekers.  Which one is this?

  • Is there a specific meaning behind the colors in the aura pictures? They are very cool.

You're a very talented artist. I love the middle one in the top row of pictures.

  • @BADBOYDOOMDADDY - Oh definitely the first. I delight in telling people the Necronomicon is not a real occult tomb and never was. I even have several shirts that make fun of the genre. It's all for the sake of entertainment.

  • @couldquitepossiblybeme - Thanks! You like the turtle? He might be a little too sweet looking for what we have in mind, but he is cute. lol Here is a site that explains the colors.

  • @harmony0stars - I have fun with it, too. What I like about it is that the genre lends itself to some wonderful artwork.  Sadly, there is a lot of representing it as serious with a sales pitch for very expensive copies of the "Cthulu Master Book" going on right now.  And if nicely bound with good art I wouldn't bitch (as I am inclined). It is just the worst photocopied crap that they hope to get the kiddies' lunch money for.  Least they could do in that case is write their own damned book.

  • @BADBOYDOOMDADDY - I couldn't agree more. Honestly. I like Geiger's take on the Necronomicon, but the "scholarly" texts don't even try to be accurate in terms of time period, let alone information. It's all one big joke. They should all have a disclaimer in the beginning of the book explaining the true origins at least. I mean, poor Lovecraft died without ever really making money on his writings at all. It wasn't until after he died that his career took off. They could at least give credit where credit is due. It's not like it would cost them anything. People would still buy their nonsense.

  • @harmony0stars - I so hate that aspect of it.  Lovecraft rules!  and some low life uses his creative genius to scam money while he went uncompensated.  And how? By making like it isn't Lovecraft's work.  Now, if they did it in good binding and well illustrated with banners declaring, "Lovecraft, yes - Grand Theft Auto, no", that I could dig.  Rob the poor dead guy but at least give him the friggin credit...not the devil.

  • the photo of the aura is kind of cool.  i'd like to do something like that just to see what comes out.
    you'r photos are really good.

  • Interesting stuffs. Especially your 16 years conviction of aura photography. What are the colors stand for?

  • Nice drawings!!!  I'd love to get an aura photo, but don't know where around here.

  • I've been told my aura is a bluish green and very healing.  I have yet to get mine done, but I think I may subscribe to Native American philosophy - pictures steal your soul or in my case seoul.    I like the drawings, especially that last one.

    @Jaynebug - Go to Indi

  • @Jaynebug - *India.  I don't know what it is, maybe higher consciousness current one plugs into, but while I was there, I was able to see colors, at leasts predominant ones in people's auras.

  • @jaeyounglee - When I had mine done there was white all around my head, then yellows and orange with pink at the edges.  My little hand out they gave me says that  your Green shows the healer/teacher, growth, hard work, ambition and gentle strength.  Maybe India speaks to you in color.

  • Hey could you message me what the different colors mean or do a bloggy blog, ma'am?

I just suggested the India because it opens up a person, you get in touch with the deepest part of you.  Any idea or notion of you is lifted like a veil.  Hmph expressed with curiousity <-- that's for the green part.  India spoke to me on may different levels.  I'm going to live there in 2010. I may have to get my soul stolen now and get a picture.

  • I like the seahorse head picture the best.
